Republic Day on
26th January, 2011, was celebrated with zeal and
enthusiasm at the Central University of Punjab,
Bathinda. The day carries special memories of
the jawans and martyrs, who laid their lives at
the altar of the nation. Chief Guest for the day
was Dr. Pushapinder Kaur. The celebrations started
with hoisting of the flag by the honorable Vice
Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Jai Rup Singh, followed
by an address by him. In his address, Prof. (Dr.)
Jai Rup Singh emphasized that rights and duties
go hand in hand, and not just being aware of the
rights but also of one’s duties should be
the responsibility of all citizens. The nation
can progress only whence one is aware of his responsibilities
and rights, was the crux of his speech. |
The order of speech
was followed by Prof. P. Ramarao, Dean of Dept.
of Applied Sciences in which he put forth the
idea that even after many years of our independence
we are still not free from challenges and obstacles.
The real strength of the country rests in the
competence with which it overcomes all its hurdles.
Prof. R.L.Hangloo, Dean of Dept. of Global Relations
in his visionary speech proclaimed that this university
would be one of the best institutions in the world
in the coming times.
The second major part of the celebrations was
an exhibition, put up by the centre for Comparative
Literature. The title of the exhibition was ‘Meghdoota’,
a text by the greatest of all times, Kalidasa.
The students beautifully put on paper in colors
what Kalidasa vividly wrote in verses. The bold
message conveyed by the students was that failure
in fulfilling one’s duties results in his
enduring hard times. Varied colors, descriptions,
portrayal of the cities, mountains, nature as
described in the text and beautifully depicted
by students made the event really colorful. The
audience not only appreciated the creative effort
of students, but also encouraged the students
to continue such kind of activities in future.
This was followed by a round of the university
by the guests who visited the newly constructed
buildings in the campus. Dr. Felix Bast conducted
the stage and the celebrations ended with a vote
