Designed to meet the information needs of faculty and students, the fully air-conditioned central library of Central University of Punjab is situated in Academic Block, in the vicinity of class rooms, laboratories and faculty rooms. The library had been designed such a way to have maximum natural light illumination. Equipped with elegant modular furniture, the library has nearly 12000 books on its racks and subscribing 61 (23 national and 38 international) peer-reviewed academic print journals. Apart from these, 7400 full text online journals are also available under various bibliographic databases and full text resources, including ‘UGC Infonet’ programme, Science Direct, Springer, J-STOR, Wiley-Blackwell, Taylor & Francis, Project Muse, SCOPUS and Science Online. In addition, facility is also available to access periodical collection of 22 university libraries in India through JCCC UGC Infonet. This service has in-built facility to request for the periodical articles from other university libraries of India. Library has institutional access to World Bank E-Library and membership of DELNET. RFID (Radio Frequency Identification, 3M) and Electromagnetic security systems have been installed to facilitate self-service circulation (self-issue, self-return and self-renewal) with sophisticated security component comprising of 20 CCTVs. A reprographic service, with latest photocopying machines and sophisticated scanners are available for readers. The library has V-cradle planetary scanner for automated scanning of bound volumes. The library has its entire bibliographic collection in online electronic database (OPAC) that facilitates advanced search and subscription details. All the computers in computer centre have popular bibliographical software EndNote® installed and the faculty periodically organizes training programs on its usage.
